Wait for Me is told through the narrative of an old man whose past is too painful to allow him to move forward. The protagonist, Nicholi, is gripped with sorrow by the memory of the death of his first love when he was a young man, which in turn forced him to embark on a life that he never could have imagined. As he sits on his porch on his 73rd birthday reminiscing about his lost love (and hoping to see her soon), he is approached by an unexpected visitor. Although he is not one who normally receives company, he is welcoming and pleasantly surprised by the similarities between her and the love of his life. While conversing with his visitor, Nicholi shares the story of his life with her, and in turn, is forced to relive his painful past in order to “see” her true identity and the significance of her visit.
